National Train Day In Coos Bay

The Oregon Coast Historical Railway in Coos Bay will celebrate National Train Day on Saturday, May 11th with a free open house. It will feature tours of the display area and museum, equipment demonstrations, food, music and refreshments. Railroaders from several eras will be on hand to share their experiences and explain the function of the equipment. Youngsters can ring vintage bells, including the one on steam engine Number 104, and there will be other hands-on opportunities.

Visitors can explore the group’s two vintage cabooses, and sit at the controls of road building equipment, the steam engine and diesel engine Number 111, which operated for many years at the International Paper mill in Gardiner. Also check the progress of the group’s latest restoration effort, a 1927-era steam crane that worked on the rails and in the woods of Coos County. For more information, call 541-297-6130.
