New Confirmed COVID-19 Case in Coos County

Coos Health and Wellness has confirmed a new case of COVID-19 that was identified at Bay Area Hospital early this morning. The case is a Coos County man who had been traveling out of state in an RV. The man, over the age of 60 had returned with his wife and began having symptoms this past Sunday. An Abbott test was done at Bay Area Hospital around midnight last night. The patient had exhibited symptoms including a cough, shortness of breath and fever. The male patient is now self-isolating at home.

Coos Health and Wellness Epidemiologist, Brian Leon, believes the amount of exposure to others is very low and will be difficult to trace because there were no real close contacts. The man’s wife has not been tested. Leon is strongly asking her to complete a test and to update public health daily. Currently, there are 31 positive cases and two presumptive in Coos County. The majority came from Shutter Creek Correctional Institution. All 25 Adults in Custody were moved from the facility and have since recovered.
