No One Injured In Bunker Hill Apartment Fire

The Coos Bay Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 63060 Highway 101 in the Bunkerhill area of Coos Bay. First responders found light smoke coming from the building. The fire was under control in about 25 minutes. One lane of Highway 101 was closed for about 45 minutes. Occupants from a nearby business and another apartment in the building located the fire and called 911.

No one was home at the time of the fire. The apartment suffered heavy fire and smoke damage to the bathroom, and the rest of the interior rooms of the apartment sustained moderate smoke damage. It has been determined that the origin of the fire was in the bathroom. An investigation into the cause of the fire found combustible materials that were placed too close to a heater in the bathroom.

The Coos Bay Fire Department estimates the fire damage to the structure to be $20,000.00 and $2,000.00 to the occupant’s contents. The owner of the structure has insurance on the building. No injuries were reported. A total of 17 firefighters, 3 engines, and 1 command vehicle responded to the fire.
