NWS Special Weather Statement
A wet front will move onshore Sunday. Heavy rain will develop
ahead of the front Saturday night. Post-frontal showers will
persist into Monday. Storm totals will be 2-4 inches along the
coast…around 6 inches in the Coast Range…and up to an inch in
the wetter western valleys. Some of the drier valleys will get
significant precipitation…but totals will be less than an inch.
The snow level will be very high…above almost all of the terrain.
It will also be windy along the coast until the front moves
onshore Sunday. South winds will increase to 25-40 mph along the
coast and over the Coast Range ridges…with gusts to 55 mph
possible. Winds will be much lighter over the west side valleys.
Another concern is possible debris slides near burn areas such as
the Big Windy…Douglas…Labrador…whiskey…Butler…and Forks
fires. Soils in these areas may repel water..causing increased
Other than the burn areas…flooding is not a concern…but area
rivers will see significant rises…especially near the coast.
