ODF+W Looking For Volunteers For Fin Clipping

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking volunteers for the first annual Noble Creek Hatchery fin clipping event on Saturday, May 11th. No experience is required and everyone is welcome. There will be training, coffee and doughnuts at 8am and fin clipping begins at 9am and should finish about 2. Lunch will be provided to all volunteers.

The Coos River STEP Association operates Noble Creek Hatchery, raising salmon supplied by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Young salmon are released into Noble Creek, a tributary to Isthmus Slough and part of the Coos Bay estuary. The hatchery is at 93638 Green Acres Lane in Coos Bay. To get there from Coos Bay, take Highway 42 and turn east onto Green Acres Lane into the community of Green Acres. Drive about one mile and watch for signs at the hatchery.

For more information, call the Coos River STEP Association at 541-267-3563 or email gary.r.vonderohe@state.or.us
