OIPCB Celebrates Completion Of Project-Public Invited

The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay and Coos County invites the residents of Oregon’s bay area for a celebration at 11am on Thursday, January 10th, commemorating the completion of the Boat Basin Drive Bike/Pedestrian Safety project. The gathering will be held at the Charleston Marina RV Park recreation room. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided.

The county road department, Port staff and community members worked for nearly a decade to obtain funding for the project, succeeding in raising $1.3 million to install sidewalks, streetlights, landscaping and a new road surface. Engineers also designed a new storm drain system to reduce flooding and improve water quality. Community members and property owners worked with the construction team throughout the busy 2012 tourist season to alter sidewalk designs and guide traffic, leading to a successful collaborative project.

The January 10th celebration will include entertainment provided by the Wild Women of Charleston, awards and an opportunity to share stories and envision next steps to partnering for future projects to improve Charleston.
