Police: Fire In Coos Bay Chapel; Possible IED Located

Coos Bay Police received a 911 call from a citizen on September 3rd at approximately 4:45pm, reporting smoke coming from the Prayer Chapel, at 186 West Commercial Avenue. Coos Bay Fire was immediately dispatched and the Coos Bay Police Department also responded to assist in traffic control. Upon arrival, Coos Bay Fire personnel entered the building and found what appeared to be an improvised explosive device. Coos Bay Fire personnel were able to extinguish the fire and upon doing so, the scene was turned over to Coos Bay Police Department for further investigation.

The Coos Bay Police were assisted by the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad, who subsequently contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Both agencies were able to render the device safe. At this time, no further information is available and the case is still under investigation.
