South Coast Officials to Receive Funding Following Chetco Bar Fire

Relief is in site for Curry County after US Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden were able to assist and secure a $50,000 federal grant. The grant will help develop an economic recovery plan for the county that was severely impacted by the massive Chetco Bar wildfire.  That fire burned 200-thousand acres of the Siskiyou National Forest through the summer and fall last year. The fire blanketed the southern part of the county in smoke, forced evacuations near Brookings and caused severe damage to natural areas. The $50,000 Economic Development Administration grant will finance half of a $100,000 Chetco Bar Fire Economic Impact Analysis and Recovery Plan that will assess the economic impacts of the 2017 Chetco Bar wildfire. The study will provide an economic development roadmap aimed at strengthening the regional economy, supporting private capital investment, and creating jobs.
