State to host ‘ocean zoning’ public meeting in North Bend

The Oregon Department of Land Conservation & Development is hosting a workshop to take public comment on proposed changes to the Territorial Sea Plan. The meeting is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at The Mill Casino East Salmon Room, 3201 Tremont St., North Bend. This is the only public workshop scheduled on the south Oregon coast, with meetings scheduled Tuesday, Nov. 6, in Newport and Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Astoria.

Oregon has jurisdiction of the seabed and its resources offshore to three miles, and through the Territorial Sea Plan coordinates laws, activities and programs related to that zone. The state is amending the plan to create guidelines for the siting of marine renewable energy development projects. The workshop will include an update on discussion of the latest planning options and maps.

Information from the public workshop will be shared with the Territorial Sea Plan Advisory Committee and Oregon Ocean Policy Advisory Council for designating areas for ocean renewable energy development.

More information on the Territorial Sea Plan Amendment process is available at the Oregon Ocean website
