Stay Warm Tips For Oregon Winters

Weatherizing your home can help make the frigid weather more tolerable during the winter months. This helps to increase energy efficiency and keeps families warm without spending excessive amounts on energy bills or repairs.

Check smoke detectors:

The National Fire Protection Association has found that three of five home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms. In home fires in which the smoke alarms were present but did not sound off, almost half of the smoke alarms had missing or disconnected batteries.

Wood burning safety:

Check wood stoves or fireplaces. If your chimney has not been inspected in a long time, call a professional to inspect and clean it. Stock up on wood and ensure you have a clean, dry storage area.
